The mayor of Vícar, Antonio Bonilla, yesterday presented the project for the new neighborhood Market of Abastos in La Gangosa to nearly a hundred residents. The work, to be carried out with European FEDER funds through the Integrated Action Plan of Vícar (PAI), will involve an investment of 650,000 euros.
Bonilla emphasized the importance of citizen involvement and stated that this project will be realized thanks to European Funds which will bring nearly ten million euros in investments to Vícar. "Beyond simply rehabilitating a building, we seek to recover a space for everyone, to make the market a meeting place again, to support local businesses, and to contribute to the life of the municipality's center for many years to come," he stressed.
The project aims to preserve the essence of the existing building and adapt it to current needs, creating a modern, functional, and accessible space. The organization will remain centered around a covered central courtyard, which will serve as the heart of the building and a versatile space for activities. A new main entrance will be opened on the south facade, and a bar-cafeteria area with a terrace will be established.
The nine commercial stalls will have an approximate area of 20 square meters each and will be flexible to accommodate different types of businesses. Service areas, including storage, facilities rooms, waste disposal, and public restrooms, will be concentrated in the north area, with independent external access for deliveries. The renovation will include a complete overhaul of the market's facilities with more efficient and sustainable systems.
During the meeting, the mayor also announced other projects for La Gangosa, including a roundabout, the central library, and a covered activities center. The Integrated Action Plan of Vícar (PAI), co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), includes a total of 124 actions with nearly 10 million euros in investments for the municipality's sustainable urban development.
