The Berja City Council has officially presented the Sustainable Agro-Market, scheduled for next Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Plaza Porticada. The event aims to become a hub connecting local producers, artisans, and citizens committed to responsible consumption and rural development.
The initiative, running from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, is part of the Raíces project, with the collaboration of AFAMMER and the support of the local council. Its main objective is to promote proximity consumption, highlight the work of regional entrepreneurs, and encourage the use of local and seasonal products.
The event will not only feature a commercial area but also a diverse program of activities for all ages. This includes live music performances, children's entertainment, and various talks and workshops focused on sustainability, healthy eating, and rural life.
We encourage residents and visitors to participate in this day, which seeks to be a space supporting small producers and fostering more responsible and sustainable consumption habits.
The detailed program includes a popular chocolate tasting at 10:30 AM titled ‘Compartimos desayuno’ (We Share Breakfast). At 11:00 AM, a talk-forum ‘Sembrando futuro: agroecología y Kilómetro Cero para una comunidad resiliente’ (Sowing the Future: Agroecology and Kilometer Zero for a Resilient Community) will be given by Francisco García Martínez, a social worker and president of the Asociación Trotamundos Animados.
Following this at 11:30 AM, there will be a storytelling session ‘Sabores de colores’ (Flavors of Colors), narrated by Cristina Guti from Almería. At 12:00 PM, attendees can enjoy a tasting of artisan cheeses from Quesería Los Almendros, guided by Aura Livi Bot Sferle.
The day will conclude from 1:00 PM onwards with a live showcooking event, ‘El sabor del Kilómetro Cero’ (The Taste of Kilometer Zero), where a vegetarian paella will be prepared using local ingredients, also organized by the Asociación Trotamundos Animados.
Throughout the day, the market will offer local and seasonal products, crafts, children's activities, and talks. Live music will be provided by the Trío Aloha, from the Clasijazz Rural circuit, adding rhythm and vitality to the Plaza Porticada.
The event will also feature an information stand from the Red Agroecológica de Almería (RAA), an association of producers and processors linked to the province's artisanal agri-food sector, working to defend food sovereignty and agroecology.
