The Almería municipality of Balanegra, with 3,000 inhabitants, competed against Zumarraga (Gipuzkoa) in the popular show. Sponsored by Quique Torito, the Andalusian team overcame various traditional challenges such as the Crazy Logs, Mathematical Penguins, Naughty Squirrels, Coconuts, Greased Pole, Hot Potato, and Super Bowling. Additionally, both teams inaugurated two new challenges: High-Altitude Beekeeping and Running Hamsters.
The gala concluded with the traditional Dictionary segment, where Balanegra performed with ease, establishing a nine-point lead over the Basque team (29 to 20). Although both teams missed the final question, Balanegra's significant advantage sealed their victory with a final score of 25 to 16.
This triumph qualifies Balanegra for the semi-finals of the Grand Prix 2026, alongside the town of Polinyá. Next week, the contender from the Almería team will be revealed, who will face either the 'chicharreros' from San Juan de la Rambla (Tenerife) or the 'conquenses' from Quintanar del Rey (Cuenca) in the final.
Hundreds of Balanegra residents gathered in a tent set up by the City Council to watch the gala live. The council expressed its pride on social media, stating: "we are very proud of your effort, your dedication, your camaraderie, and the magnificent image you projected of our municipality."
