The anticipated new season of 'El Grand Prix del Verano' is gearing up, and one of the most awaited matchups has been revealed: Balanegra, representing the province of Almería, will compete against Zumarraga, a municipality in Gipuzkoa, Basque Country.
Zumarraga, with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants, boasts a strong credential for its participation, as it already organizes its own summer 'Grand Prix' in the bullring during its local festivities.
Although the official premiere date has not yet been confirmed, it is expected within the coming weeks. The program, produced by RTVE in collaboration with EuroTV Producciones (Grupo iZen), will feature 9 episodes: 6 qualifying programs, 2 semifinals, and a grand final. Twelve municipalities from various autonomous communities will compete for the title.
The new season promises to bring back iconic games such as 'La patata caliente' (The Hot Potato), 'Los troncos locos' (The Crazy Logs), 'Los bolos' (The Skittles), and 'El diccionario' (The Dictionary), in addition to reintroducing 'la cucaña' (greased pole). A new game, 'Pasión de capitanes' (Captains' Passion), will be added, granting the golden card, and the legendary 90s intro sequences will return with Lalachus.
Ramón García will once again serve as the main host, accompanied by Lalachus, Gorka Rodríguez, Wilbur, and Vaquilla. The official presentation took place in Yepes, the setting for the first program of the 2023 season.
The confirmed matchups include: Cantalejo (Castilla y León) versus Polinyà (Catalonia); San Juan de la Rambla (Canarias) versus Quintanar del Rey (Castilla - La Mancha); Altura (Valencian Community) versus Pradejón (La Rioja); Serranillos del Valle (Community of Madrid) versus Pravia (Asturias); and Blanca (Murcia) versus Muros (Galicia).
