Among the most notable debuts is that of María Santísima de los Dolores y Esperanza, whose first phase of the float, conceived by Francisco Naranjo Beltrán and inspired by the Málaga Cathedral organ, set out from the Cruz del Humilladero neighborhood. On Holy Tuesday, the brotherhood of Sentencia was finally able to unveil the new float of the Lord, designed by José María Ruiz Montes with carvings by Manuel Toledano, after a postponement in 2025 due to adverse weather.
On Good Friday, the most anticipated debut was that of the new float for the Santísimo Cristo del Amor. This project, the work of artist Fernando Prini, is characterized by its Rococo style, six poles, and an elaborate design in carved and gilded wood. The carving, also by Manuel Toledano, was enhanced by the recovery of attributes for the Crucified and the Virgen de los Dolores, in addition to a new rectangular and flat processional cross.
“"This project represents a firm step towards the future, keeping alive the essence and identity that defines us."
In addition to these premieres, Málaga's brotherhood heritage is preparing for future additions. Last Lent, the design for the float of the Nazareno de la Salutación was presented, conceived by Manuel Toledano Gómez, following the lineage of his father, Manuel Toledano Vega. This is the second in a series of four monumental floats by Manuel Toledano, which includes the future float of the Cristo de la Crucifixión, although this brotherhood has already completed a renovation of its current float.
Other brotherhoods are also advancing their projects. Mediadora has completed the carving of the float for its Nazareno Redentor del Mundo, a work by Francisco Verdugo and designed by Salvador de los Reyes, who also conceived the future base for the Virgin. The brotherhood of Humildad y Paciencia continues with the partial carving of its float, designed by Fernando Prini, and approved a new sculptural group by José María Ruiz Montes. Gitanos debuted elements of the new float for María Santísima de la O, designed by Curro Claros, while Nueva Esperanza has made progress on the ensemble for the Nazareno del Perdón.
Finally, Santa Cruz has an ambitious project underway for the Santísimo Cristo de la Victoria, featuring a reel-shaped pedestal design by Curro Claros. In recent years, other floats have been completed, such as that of the Virgen de la Paloma (2018), the Resucitado (2019), and the Cristo del Perdón (2023). Still pending are those of Pollinica and Jesús de la Soledad, under construction since 2007, as well as projects on paper for the Piedad and the Virgen del Amparo.
