The Lithuanian player, who arrived in Malaga last summer from Barcelona, has formalized his commitment to the University of Florida for the upcoming season. This move marks his entry into US college basketball, following a growing trend among young European talents.
During his time in Malaga, the 2.08-meter center frequently participated in Unicaja's first team practices and had the opportunity to officially debut in both the ACB league and the BCL. His performance in the U22 League has been remarkable, averaging 15.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.
The University of Florida, renowned for its success in college basketball and for nurturing players for the NBA and European leagues, represents a high-level project for the young athlete. Unicaja, for its part, will monitor his progress, considering him a valuable asset for the future should his professional career not fully develop in the United States.
The player's arrival in Malaga occurred in a context where Barcelona, which still held his rights, prioritized other interior talents. Unicaja saw in him an opportunity to strengthen its U22 team and support the first team in training sessions. His departure to the NCAA entails a penalty that covers the investment made by the Malaga club.
