The VII edition of La Mini Desértica will take place on October 16, solidifying its position as a key children's sporting event in the province. The race, which precedes the major La Desértica event, expects to gather 700 boys and girls, surpassing the previous edition's numbers.
The race is aimed at participants aged 0 to 14 years, with adapted routes ranging from 300 meters to 1.8 kilometers. It maintains its inclusive, participatory, and non-competitive character, aiming to promote grassroots sports and quality of life from an early age.
One of the main novelties this year is the change of venue for the start, which will move to the Port of Almería. The Runner's Fair will also be held in this area, with a route extending along the Paseo Marítimo.
The event has a strong charitable focus, with this year's proceeds going to the Club Padre Huelin, a non-profit sports association that uses sport as a tool for integration. The registration fee is a symbolic €3.
The event's presentation was attended by the Deputy of Sports, María Luisa Cruz; the Councilor for Sports of the Almería City Council, Antonio Casimiro; the Colonel Chief of the 'Don Juan de Austria' Tercio of La Legión, José Manuel Sánchez Arribas; and the General Manager of the Torrecárdenas Shopping Center, Modesto García-Polo.
Deputy María Luisa Cruz highlighted La Legión's commitment to grassroots sports and the consolidation of La Mini Desértica as an anticipated activity. Councilor Antonio Casimiro emphasized the importance of promoting physical activity from childhood to make Almería a more active city focused on well-being.
Colonel José Manuel Sánchez Arribas underscored the race's growth and its objective of promoting healthy grassroots sports. Meanwhile, Modesto García-Polo expressed the Torrecárdenas Shopping Center's satisfaction in continuing to support a consolidated family event.
Registration will open on September 13 at 10:00 AM via the website www.ladesertica.es and will remain open until all available spots are filled. Race bibs and commemorative t-shirts can be collected at the Torrecárdenas Shopping Center and the Port of Almería on the days prior to and on the race day itself.
