According to the indictment from the Public Prosecutor's Office, the defendant acted in conjunction with another unidentified person. Both, driven by the intent of illicit gain, went to a store in Málaga.
At the establishment, the accused pretended to purchase saucepans valued at 60 euros. She attempted to pay with a 500-euro bill, and after trying to confuse the employee, she allegedly swapped a legitimate bill for a counterfeit one. However, the sales assistant detected the deception, thwarting the woman's plan.
The inauthentic bill used was manufactured with a quality that made it appear genuine at first glance.
After being discovered, the accused and her companion fled the scene in a vehicle where an unidentified man was waiting for them, failing to acquire either the saucepans or the change from the bill. The public prosecution noted that this criminal technique is known in criminal slang as the «magic theft».
The Prosecutor's Office considers the acts to constitute attempted fraud, for which it requests five months in prison, and currency counterfeiting, for which it seeks a ten-year prison sentence. Additionally, a fine of 3,000 euros is requested. It is worth noting that the accused has 42 previous convictions, including two for the distribution or introduction of counterfeit currency.
