The new parking area, operational from 06:00 AM, is intended to serve the hospital environment while construction continues on the future Virgen de la Esperanza Hospital, a project undertaken by the Sando-OHLA-Vialterra consortium.
Of the total 750 spaces, 163 offer discounted rates for healthcare professionals, while the remaining 587 are for general use. This allocation has led to protests from staff, who deem the number of discounted spaces insufficient given that approximately 3,500 professionals work between the Civil Hospital and the Maternal and Child Hospital. The general hourly rate is 1.36 euros, compared to the previous 0.80 euros per day.
The Regional Government of Andalusia stated that this temporary measure aims to "expand parking options" and facilitate access during the construction phases of the new facility.
The project for the future Virgen de la Esperanza Hospital includes a permanent parking infrastructure with approximately 2,000 spaces, which will gradually replace the temporary solutions. This new hospital, whose foundation stone was laid on February 2, 2026, will feature 815 rooms, 48 operating theaters, and 80 ICU beds, among other facilities.
