International airline Wizz Air will open a new base in Santiago de Compostela on December 17th, offering flights that will connect Galicia with Málaga. This route is part of a broader expansion by the airline in the Iberian Peninsula.
According to Vera Jardan, Wizz Air's corporate communication manager, the airline aims to provide Spanish travelers with unprecedented access to sustainable, low-cost air travel just before the festive season. The expansion includes connections from Galicia to the Canary Islands, Aragon, Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia.
Nationally, the first low-cost flights from Santiago de Compostela, scheduled for December 17th, will connect with Málaga, Tenerife North, and Zaragoza. For the following day, December 18th, flights to Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are planned.
This dual expansion, according to Wizz Air, strengthens its presence in continental Spain and the islands, supporting local economies and tourism, while offering an affordable option for families visiting friends and relatives during the winter holidays.
Internationally, the airline will also connect Valencia with Chisinau (Moldova) with three weekly frequencies. Additionally, it will inaugurate routes between Madrid and Barcelona with Brasov (Romania), operating twice a week.
