This mobilization aims to halt what the union considers a serious setback in the labor rights of employees of major fashion and footwear chains, such as Inditex, Mango, Tendam, Primark, H&M, Uniqlo, and Kiabi.
UGT has stood alone against the employer association Arte, after the latter reached an agreement with the unions CCOO and Fetico. The union organization claims that the text was signed “without the approval of 50% of the union representatives” present at the negotiating table, which included CCOO, UGT, Fetico, CIG, and ELA.
“"What we intend is for workers to be informed, because many don't even know what Arte is or how this agreement will affect their daily lives."
UGT warns that the state agreement could lead to a loss of purchasing power, reduced breaks and voluntary holidays, and the weakening of provincial negotiations. The latter, according to the union, has allowed many regions, such as Málaga, to establish more favorable working and salary conditions. The demonstration in Málaga will take place at 12:00 PM on Calle Larios.
The union estimates that the approval of this agreement could result in a potential loss of up to 2,200 euros annually for workers starting in 2029, especially in provinces with more advantageous provincial agreements. The CIG, a Galician nationalist union, has confirmed its support for the day of mobilization.
