Tragic End in Málaga: Woman Murdered in Suspected Gender Violence Case

A 51-year-old woman has been found dead alongside her 56-year-old partner in their home in the La Palma neighborhood of Málaga, in an incident the National Police are investigating as a case of gender violence.

The lifeless bodies of the couple were discovered on Friday morning in their residence, located on the 12th floor of a building in the northern part of the city. The primary hypothesis suggests the man killed the woman and subsequently took his own life. Neighbors described the victim as hardworking, polite, and active in community life, while the man was perceived as reclusive and distant.
The couple had resided in the La Palma-Palmilla neighborhood for decades. The victim, who presided over the residents' association and performed maintenance tasks, was known for her involvement and efforts to improve the neighborhood. "She was a wonderful person. She worked for her children," commented some visibly affected neighbors. The 51-year-old woman had a 28-year-old son and an older daughter, as well as three grandchildren.
The man, 56, was much more reserved, and his reclusiveness had intensified in recent months. According to neighbor testimonies, he was rarely seen lately. He was unemployed, and his behavior became increasingly absent, although some saw him recently at raffles or walking towards the nearby school. Neighbors reported no prior signs of physical violence towards her, though they did notice his nervousness.
The incident has shocked the community, which highlights the victim's commitment to her surroundings. "She was a very good and committed person," stated a neighbor. A statement from the Palma Palmilla Community Plan emphasized her role as "a very determined woman who strived to build a team with the rest of the residents in her building."
Gunshots heard by some neighbors were reportedly fired around nine o'clock on Thursday night or Friday morning, according to different accounts. The discovery of the bodies occurred around 7:30 AM on Friday, following several calls to the Emergency system 112 Andalucía. The homicide unit of the Provincial Police Station of Málaga is handling the investigation.
This case adds to the tragic statistics of gender-based violence. So far this year, 23 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners in Spain. If confirmed, this would be the 24th fatality from this scourge in the country, the second in Málaga, and the fifth in Andalusia. The Sub-delegation of the Government in Málaga is gathering data for the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.
