The municipality of Ronda, in the Serranía de Málaga, presents itself as a crucial point in the current Andalusian regional elections. In the 2022 elections, the Popular Party achieved a resounding victory in the town, securing 7,796 votes, which represented 51.48% of the ballots cast. This significant support, which surpassed the PSOE-A by 4,592 votes, makes Ronda an essential barometer for measuring the PP's strength in the province's interior and its ability to maintain electoral backing outside coastal and metropolitan areas.
The election day on May 17 focuses on the question of whether Juanma Moreno can secure an absolute majority for the PP or if he will need to negotiate with Vox. The province of Málaga, which elects 17 deputies, plays a decisive role in this scenario. The result in Ronda will be particularly watched to assess whether conservative votes remain firm with the PP or if there is a shift towards Vox, which in 2022 obtained 1,902 votes (12.56%) in the locality. An increase for Vox at the expense of the PP could narrow the provincial margin and complicate the goal of an absolute majority.
For its part, the PSOE-A faces the challenge of reducing the gap with the PP in Ronda, where in 2022 it was the second force with 3,204 votes (21.16%). Mobilizing its electorate and recovering votes will be key to improving the left-wing bloc's options in the province of Málaga. Abstention in Ronda was 43.13% in 2022, a figure the socialists will seek to reverse.
To the left of the PSOE, the candidacies of Por Andalucía and Adelante Andalucía-Andalucistas will compete for the progressive space. In 2022, Por Andalucía was the most voted with 885 votes (5.84%), followed by Adelante Andalucía with 442 ballots (2.92%). Fragmentation in this political spectrum could limit their chances of representation for Málaga, where every vote point can be decisive for the final distribution of seats.
