Raúl Castronovo, remembered for his time as a forward for Club Deportivo Málaga over four seasons (1974-1978), has passed away at the age of 77. The Argentine footballer played 60 official matches for the blue-and-white team, scoring 20 goals. During his tenure with the club, he experienced two relegations and one promotion.
Castronovo holds the record for the all-time top scorer in the Trofeo Costa del Sol, with five goals, and is also the highest scorer for Club Deportivo Málaga in this prestigious tournament during its peak era.
“"Look, goals are like a vice for me... Some people turn to drinking: others to cigarettes or anything else. Me, to goals."
The Rosario-born forward began his career at his hometown club, Rosario Central, later playing for Peñarol of Montevideo and Nancy in France, before arriving in Spanish football. After his spell at Málaga, he played for Hércules, Salamanca, and Algeciras.
