The Official College of Nursing of Málaga has secured a conviction for document forgery, following the detection of an attempt to register with fraudulent documentation. This incident, dating back to January 2022, highlights the critical importance of access controls in healthcare professions.
The person involved presented a certification of degree validation which, upon verification with the issuing body, was found to be invalid. Consequently, the legal department of the College filed the appropriate complaint.
“"The College's action was decisive in preventing an individual without the required qualification from entering professional practice, with the consequent risk this would have posed to patient safety."
The judicial process concluded in April 2026 with the defendant accepting the conviction. The sentence, issued by the Criminal Section of the Court of First Instance of Málaga, imposes a six-month prison term, a financial fine, disqualification, and payment of legal costs.
The collegiate institution emphasizes the importance of having detected the irregularity in time, stressing that nursing is a profession demanding training, responsibility, and guarantees. Furthermore, a call has been made to administrations and healthcare centers to strengthen control mechanisms, ensuring that no one enters the healthcare field without meeting legal requirements, as the public's trust in the system and patient health are at stake.
