PP of Málaga Demands Urgent Solutions for A-7 Collapse

The popular party urges the central government for immediate measures to address mobility issues in the eastern part of the province, exacerbated by residential growth.

The Popular Party in Málaga has intensified its pressure on the central government, demanding immediate solutions for the persistent collapse of the A-7 highway in the eastern part of the province, a problem significantly impacting residents' daily lives.

With just over a month until the Andalusian elections on May 17, the Popular Party has made mobility in the province of Málaga a central theme of its campaign. During a campaign event held last Thursday in the El Palo neighborhood of the capital, Patricia Navarro, the provincial president of the party, and Miguel Tellado, the PP's general secretary, called on the central government for urgent solutions to the “permanent collapse” affecting the A-7 in the eastern part of the province.
Navarro warned that residential growth in areas such as Málaga's East District, Rincón de la Victoria, and towns in the Axarquía region is worsening traffic problems. She highlighted that more and more residents are choosing these areas to live, only to face extensive traffic jams and queues that make daily life impossible.
The popular leader stressed that her party has been advocating for measures to improve traffic flow on this stretch for “over a year,” including the construction of a third lane on the A-7. This proposal, they claim, already has the support of over 20,000 neighborhood signatures. Additionally, she suggested complementary actions such as reorganizing access points and implementing reversible lanes during peak hours.

"Neither one proposal nor the other has been heeded."

Navarro also brought up the need to plan a third metropolitan ring road in the medium to long term, to prevent the problem from limiting “the growth and well-being of Málaga's residents.”
For his part, the party's general secretary, Miguel Tellado, supported these demands and accused the central government of a “lack of response” to what he described as a structural problem for the province. The PP's demands come as the central government continues to study various solutions for this mobility black spot. According to Javier Salas, the government sub-delegate, in January, an ongoing technical report is considering several alternatives, from a third lane to a new perimeter road or flexible lanes, with results expected before summer.
