The demonstration in Málaga, which commenced at 12:00 PM from Plaza de la Marina, was part of a series of simultaneous mobilizations across the eight Andalusian provincial capitals. Participants voiced their opposition to "privatization" and the current management, directly criticizing president Juanma Moreno.
“"Currently, the age-adjusted global mortality in Andalusia is the highest among all communities. According to the INE, in 2025, Andalusia exceeded the national average mortality rate by 11.6%."
Various left-wing parties, unions, and associations joined the protest. Por Andalucía was represented by Toni Valero, coordinator of IU Andalucía, and Ernesto Alba, head of the list for Málaga. Valero described the mobilizations as "historic," stating they are a "definitive point to oust Moreno" and "recover" public healthcare.
The PSOE also participated, led by Ana Villarejo, spokesperson and number two for the Andalusian Parliament for Málaga, and Carmen Martín, Health Secretary of the PSOE of Málaga. Villarejo asserted that Málaga is experiencing "the biggest health crisis in recent times" and criticized the province for leading Andalusia in waiting lists, with over 240,000 people awaiting surgery or specialist appointments.
The demands of the Mareas Blancas include the recovery of healthcare investment, a multi-year plan to settle the "historic healthcare debt" of 20 billion euros, the creation of participatory health councils, and the requirement that management positions have accredited experience and training, without conflicts of interest with private healthcare companies. They also call for allocating at least 25% of the healthcare budget to Primary Care, reducing waiting lists, and strengthening mental health services.
