This initiative, led by Patricia Navarro, delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga, seeks a solution to the daily traffic jams affecting the stretch connecting the capital with Rincón de la Victoria and Vélez. This action is part of a pre-election campaign, where the PP emphasizes the need to decongest one of the province's main arteries.
Navarro highlighted the population growth in the East District, which has increased the demand for road infrastructure. The signature campaign, which began in autumn 2023, has already gathered over 2,000 endorsements, despite the Government's initial response of commissioning a preliminary study to address the issue.
“"More and more people from Málaga are choosing the East District as their place of residence."
The Popular Party is pushing for the implementation of a third lane to mitigate rush-hour congestion, which causes significant delays for drivers. Navarro expressed concern that the response from the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, might be dismissive, urging the Government to consider their proposals or present viable alternatives.
The general secretary of the PP, Miguel Tellado, who accompanied Navarro in Málaga, joined the criticism, describing the province as "mistreated by the Government." Tellado also promised that a future "Feijoó Government of Spain" would carry out the A-7 expansion. The Junta's delegate clarified that her party's demand has a long history and should not be interpreted as a strategy to "wear down Sánchez" during the electoral period.
