The presentation ceremony took place at the Association's headquarters and was attended by various authorities, institutional representatives, and media. This project is envisioned as a platform to address crucial societal topics, fostering an encounter between different viewpoints.
José Carlos Garín, president of the Association, highlighted the importance of promoting cultural proposals that contribute to a society “more educated, better prepared, and more aware of the need to listen.” Garín emphasized that 'FE' aligns with the goal of keeping Málaga's Holy Week alive, while expanding its dimension towards culture, thought, and heritage.
“"If we are Christians, we must question, reflect, and debate. This cycle is born precisely as an exercise in openness, of moving beyond insularity and looking at the world around us."
Alejandro Cerezo, the institution's Head of Culture, detailed the project's contents, explaining that 'FE' is designed to transcend the brotherhood sphere and open up to all citizens. The project is structured around two main pillars: a conference series and an exhibition.
The conference series, titled 'Science, Religion and Ethics in today's world', will be an open and free forum. It will feature scientific, philosophical, and theological voices to debate fundamental issues such as life, death, human identity, and the ethical challenges of the 21st century. Sessions will run until November and can be followed online.
This series will commence in April with the 'Life after death' encounter, bringing together writer Juan Manuel de Prada and neuroscientist Álex Gómez-Marín. In May, the focus will be on education, with the participation of Gregorio Luri, José Carlos Ruiz, and Serafín Béjar. June will feature a session on current ethical challenges, with Lola López Mondéjar, Antonio Diéguez, and again José Carlos Ruiz. After the summer, the program will continue with discussions on the origin of humanity, contemporary mysticism, and the relationship between science and faith, featuring speakers such as Amelia Valcárcel, Juan Arnau, Victoria Cirlot, Juan José Tamayo, and Pere Estupinyà.
The second pillar of the project is the exhibition 'Hispanic-American Nativity Scenes. The influence of the Spanish Nativity Scene in America', which will open in the final months of the year in Málaga. The exhibition will showcase nearly fifty pieces from various Latin American countries, illustrating the artistic and cultural blend of this tradition and how American cultures have reinterpreted the Nativity.
The 'FE' project aims to establish itself as a stable space for thought, heritage, and encounter in the city, combining intellectual reflection, cultural tradition, and artistic dimension. The initiative is sponsored by the Fundación Unicaja, the Ayuntamiento de Málaga, the Diputación Provincial de Málaga, and the Junta de Andalucía, with collaboration from UMAS Seguros and AC Málaga Palacio.
