The Ateneo de Málaga is organizing a two-day cultural event, on April 22 and 23, to explore the figure of Miguel de Cervantes, connecting his work and life between Algiers and various towns in the Málaga province.

The initiative, titled "Encounter with Cervantes. Literature and History. From Algiers to Málaga", will take place in the institution's auditorium. The series proposes a cultural and geographical journey following the footsteps of the renowned writer, establishing links between five cities of the international Cervantine network: Antequera, Vélez-Málaga, Málaga, Teba, and Algiers.
The event is organized by the Literature, Narrative and Essay, and History sections of the Málaga Ateneo, together with the Málaga Club for UNESCO. Various entities collaborate, including the Collegiate Association of Writers of Spain (Andalusia), the National Institute of Statistics, the Málaga city councils of the International Network of Cervantine Cities, the Cervantes Institute, the Spanish Embassy in Algiers, the Spanish Federation of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO, and the Network of Cervantine Cities (RCC).
On Tuesday, April 22, the program will focus on Don Quixote, Algiers, and the Cervantine cities of Málaga. After the welcome, a conference titled “Anatomy of Don Quixote. An approach to understanding and enjoying it” will be offered. The day will conclude with a round table featuring representatives from the Cervantine cities in the network.
On Wednesday, April 23, the focus will be "Cervantes and cinema". Books related to the author will be presented, including the novel Cautivo and Don Quixote versus reality. A statistical reading. The afternoon will culminate with a round table titled "A new look at Cervantes: Amenábar's Captive", which will include the participation of experts in literature, cinema, and journalism from the University of Málaga.
