Málaga Traffic: 250,000 Journeys Expected This Weekend

The General Directorate of Traffic activates a special operation for the start of the holiday month and the increase in vehicles on the province's main roads.

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) anticipates a total of 250,500 long-distance journeys in the province of Málaga from Friday, July 31st, to Sunday, August 2nd, coinciding with the end of July holidays and the start of August.

The special traffic operation will commence at 3:00 PM on Friday and continue until midnight on Sunday. A significant increase in vehicle movement is expected on the province's main routes, including the A-357, A-45, A-7, AP-46, AP-7, A-92, A-92M, and MA-20.
Peak traffic hours will be concentrated on Friday between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM. On Saturday, the most challenging periods will be from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. On Sunday, traffic will intensify between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and again from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The DGT has identified several conflict points. On the A-45, difficulties may arise at the Alto de Las Pedrizas (km 115-118). On the A-7, the marked sections are in San Pedro de Alcántara (km 1,053-1,050) and Fuengirola (km 1,015-1,013). The MA-20 in Málaga, between kilometers 0.000 and 12.600, will also be affected.
Ongoing construction work will impact traffic flow. On the A-45, there are works in the tunnels of Casabermeja (km 128.6-12) and a closure in the direction of Córdoba, with a transfer route available (km 123.5-118). The AP-46 is proposed as a general alternative, and for light vehicles, the A-7 in Vélez-Málaga via the A-356 and A-7204.
On the A-7, there are interventions in tunnels in Nerja, Torrox, Vélez-Málaga, and Málaga, which may cause diversions. In the Estepona-Marbella section (km 1,066-1,027.3), pedestrian walkway rehabilitation works will not affect traffic, but the installation of acoustic screens on the AP-7 in the Marbella bypass and between Puerto Banús and Marbella will have an impact.
The circulation of vehicles carrying dangerous goods will be restricted on all provincial roads on Saturday, August 1st, and Sunday, August 2nd (8:00 AM - 12:00 AM). Trucks over 7,500 kg will also be prohibited from circulating on Sunday (5:00 PM - 12:00 AM) on the A-45 (km 142-115) towards Córdoba.
For journeys between the north and the eastern part of the province, it is recommended to use the A-45 to the A-356 exit and continue towards La Viñuela and Vélez-Málaga. From Seville to western Málaga, the A-374 to Ronda and the A-397 towards San Pedro de Alcántara are suggested.
The Guardia Civil will reinforce surveillance, paying special attention to the Dreambeach Festival in Vélez-Málaga. Increased traffic is expected around the junction of the A-7 and A-356, with peak hours on Friday (7:00 PM - 11:00 PM) and Saturday (9:00 PM - 12:30 AM).
