This prestigious contest, named after the renowned painter from Vélez-Málaga, is an initiative of the provincial institution in collaboration with the Vélez-Málaga City Council. The call, published in the Official Provincial Gazette on May 6, states that the deadline for submitting applications will run until July 15.
The current edition of the award features significant financial prizes: the first-place winner will receive 3,000 euros, the first runner-up will get 1,000 euros, and the second runner-up will be awarded 500 euros.
The registration process is divided into two mandatory phases. The first phase involves submitting the participation application, which includes Annex I (registration form) and Annex II (photograph of the artwork), through the electronic registries of the Málaga Provincial Council or the common electronic registry, as well as at Post Offices or diplomatic representations. The second phase, following the application submission, requires the physical delivery of the artworks to the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage in Vélez-Málaga, located at Plaza de la Constitución, number 1, El Pósito building.
The contest is open to all adult artists of any nationality, provided they have not been awarded in previous editions. Each author may submit only one original and unpublished work, with free theme and technique, and without a signature. The artworks pre-selected by the jury will be exhibited from September 24 to October 31, 2026, in the exhibition hall of the Convento de San Francisco in Vélez-Málaga, and the winning work will become part of the Málaga Provincial Council's collection.
