The Institute of Family Business (IEF) is holding its twenty-second edition of the National Family Forum Meeting in Málaga, a pivotal event for new generations of entrepreneurs. The gathering focuses on innovation, strategic decision-making, building impactful brands, and new business paradigms in sectors such as tourism and cybersecurity.
The choice of Málaga as the venue is not accidental, according to Ana Álvarez Aldomá, president of the IEF Forum and a member of the Armando Alvarez Group. Álvarez Aldomá highlighted the city's transformation over the past 30 years, evolving into a “European innovation hub” that has attracted numerous Spanish companies. This “very conscious ecosystem” provides an ideal framework for family businesses to reflect on their legacy and future trajectory.
“"Entry into governing bodies should not be interpreted as an inherited right, but as a responsibility that demands preparation and commitment."
The meeting, organized by the IEF with the collaboration of the Andalusian Association of Family Business (AAEF) and sponsored by Deloitte and Banco Santander, addresses challenges such as governance, succession, innovation, and internationalization. María Contreras Campos, president of the Women and Business Commission and advisor at Grupo Azvi, emphasized the importance of professionalizing governing bodies and rigorously preparing for generational succession.
Family businesses are essential to the Spanish economy, representing 90% of the business fabric and contributing 57% of the private sector's GDP. In Andalusia, this figure rises to 91%. These companies are a driving force for employment, with an annual growth of 3% in jobs, and an economic growth of 7% annually, surpassing the market average. Furthermore, they are distinguished by their focus on long-term results and their commitment to sustainability, with 17% of them being carbon neutral, according to a McKinsey study.
