The proposal, promoted by the Con Málaga group, was passed with the support of most municipal groups, with the exception of Vox, which voted against it. The initiative seeks for employers to engage in dialogue with union representatives before implementing the commercial schedule extension until midnight, as part of the Late Night Shopping campaign.
During the session, union spokespeople expressed their opposition to the measure, arguing that it was imposed unilaterally. According to worker representatives, the extension does not include salary improvements or new hiring, and it hinders work-life balance and commuting via public transport.
Meanwhile, municipal groups debated the council's role in regulating commercial hours. While the Employment department of the Partido Popular initially argued that the matter falls under the Labor Inspectorate, they ultimately supported the motion. Unions have confirmed that, despite the municipal backing, they are maintaining the strike dates scheduled for July 30 and August 27.
