Following twelve days of firefighting and monitoring efforts, the Malaga City Council has reported that the fire is under control. Although some smoke may still be visible, Fire Department crews remain on-site permanently as a precautionary measure to secure the premises.
The complexity of the operation stems from the building's construction, which features wooden flooring. According to municipal sources, it is necessary to wait for the material to burn off in a controlled manner to ensure the building's stability, thereby avoiding unnecessary risks during the cooling process.
This Saturday, emergency services proceeded to remove the air conditioning system located on the hotel's roof. This preventive measure, carried out with the assistance of a crane truck, aims to reduce the weight on the affected flooring and prevent potential collapses onto the public street.
Since the incident began, which forced the evacuation of over a hundred guests without causing personal injuries, the City Council has required the property owners to implement various safety measures. These include perimeter fencing, boarding up facade openings, and progressive shoring of the structure as debris removal continues.
