The province of Málaga is dressing up to celebrate World Tapas Day this June 16th. The region's rich gastronomic tradition is showcased through small dishes that satisfy the palate, consolidating its restaurant offerings as a benchmark.
The Russian salad from the restaurant La Minilla, led by chef Juanjo Fernández, won first place in the eighth edition of the Málaga Russian Salad Championship in 2026. This establishment, located in the Montes de Málaga (kilometer 557 of the Colmenar road), has become a point of interest for lovers of this dish, surpassing competitors like La Recaleta and the Marina Playa beach bar.
The Marina Playa beach bar, with Frutos Jiménez at the helm of its kitchen, has been recognized as the best gazpachuelo in Spain at the prestigious competition held at Salón Gourmets. This establishment in Rincón de la Victoria is known for its rapid and artisanal preparation of gazpachuelo, assembled before the customer right on the beach.
Regarding Malagueñan fried fish, the beach bar La Plata Casa Matilde was crowned the winner of the last edition of the ‘Fritos con Arte’ contest. Their perfect execution of this emblematic summer dish in Málaga positions them as a reference to consider.
Mesón Mariano, a classic in the center of Málaga, is famous for its artichokes, presented in various ways such as grilled, confited, or battered. This establishment honors product-based cuisine with traditional dishes like Malagueñan goat and cod.
Finally, La Tranca, located at Calle Carretería, 92, offers an authentic experience with its chickpeas with spinach. This bar, with its old-fashioned decor and lively atmosphere, is a meeting point to enjoy Andalusian tapas and a draft vermouth.
