The Málaga Provincial Council has announced an investment of 9.5 million euros in hydraulic works for the province's municipalities, as part of the 2027 Concertation Plan. This figure represents 23% of the total budget of 41.2 million euros allocated to this plan, exceeding the initial 20% reserved for integral water cycle programs.
These actions will facilitate the repair of 6,509 linear meters of sewage pipes, the replacement of 22,325 linear meters of supply pipes, the purchase of 3,504 meters with remote reading capabilities, and the installation of over 300 photovoltaic solar energy panels for electricity supply at pumping stations.
Notable improvements include sanitation and supply infrastructure in Archidona and Colmenar, each receiving approximately 300,000 euros. Additionally, asbestos-cement pipes will be replaced in towns such as Alameda, Álora, Benadalid, Cuevas Bajas, El Borge, Igualeja, and Montecorto, totaling 707,000 euros.
The president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, positively assessed the municipalities' request to allocate these funds to hydraulic actions, highlighting their commitment to water management. He noted that this investment demonstrates the municipalities' awareness of water's vital importance for the province's development.
The 2027 Concertation Plan, expected for initial approval in the July plenary session, will drive approximately 4,000 actions across the 86 municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, as well as in the autonomous local entities and in Nerja and Torrox. Of the total 41.2 million euros, 40% is allocated to investment and services, another 40% to unconditional funds for municipal decision-making, and the remaining 20% is initially reserved for integral water cycle programs.
Salado recalled that over the past three years, the Provincial Council has dedicated 30.7 million euros to programs linked to the integral water cycle, in addition to other direct investments and those co-financed with European Next Generation funds. In total, over the last three years, the Provincial Council has invested 120,873,457 euros in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants through this plan.
