This Sunday, the province of Málaga is gearing up to experience the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. In anticipation of this significant sporting event, major retail chains have decided to adjust their closing times. Establishments like El Corte Inglés and Inditex, which includes brands such as Zara, Pull&Bear, and Massimo Dutti, will close all their centers in Málaga and the rest of the country at 8:00 PM, one hour before the match begins.
Carrefour, on its part, will advance its store closures to 8:30 PM. For stores operating 24 hours, they are expected to reopen on Monday between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM, with the unworked hours to be compensated within the annual computation, according to CCOO.
Other large companies, including Apple, IKEA, Leroy Merlin, Alcampo, Conforama, JYSK, and MediaMarkt, have also adapted their schedules to enable their staff to follow the game. The Independent Confederation of Trade Unions Fetico has positively assessed this initiative, highlighting the companies' willingness to accommodate proposals aimed at employee well-being during this important event.
Telecommunications companies have also shown their support. Movistar has renamed its network "ConLaSeleccion", Orange has changed it to "#TodoUnEquipo", and Vodafone to "APorLaSegunda". These changes are purely visual and do not affect the quality of services.
The World Cup's impact extends to the digital and economic spheres. TikTok has described the competition as the platform's "biggest content phenomenon in history." Economically, the Gestha union estimates that Spanish players could collectively pay nearly six million euros in taxes if Spain wins the title. Betting companies indicate that 73.69% of Spaniards believe their national team will be champions.
Several public and private venues in Málaga will offer giant screens to watch the match. The Movistar Arena has set up a screen with a capacity for 15,000 spectators, which is already full. Hyundai España has organized a "Hyundai Fan Par", and outdoor viewing points have been established throughout the province.
