Supporters of Málaga CF will miss the opportunity to collectively watch their team's decisive playoff matches for promotion to the First Division. LaLiga has denied the request submitted by the City Council to install giant screens in public spaces, thus preventing fans from sharing the excitement of these encounters.
The decision by the employers' association, chaired by Javier Tebas, is based on television rights, a reason that already prevented a similar initiative a few weeks ago for the match against Ceuta. This refusal is repeated now, leaving thousands of fans without the alternative of following the blue-and-white team as a group outside the stadium.
The request was managed by the Sports Department, which sought to offer an option to those supporters who could not attend the stadium or did not get a ticket. However, LaLiga has been firm, denying authorization for both the semifinals and a hypothetical final.
The decision is a cold shower for the Malaguista fanbase, which once again demonstrates its enormous capacity for mobilization in every important event.
This measure reopens the debate about the role of fans in contemporary football. While clubs promote emotion and community, decisions like this hinder the unity of supporters in crucial moments. The Málaga fanbase had hoped to experience the promotion battle together, in the streets, feeling part of something bigger.
