With approximately 130,000 pending cases accumulated in the province's courts, the president of the Provincial Court of Malaga has emphasized the need to strengthen staff and modernize resources. Despite the efforts of personnel, the current situation requires urgent intervention to prevent the collapse of the judicial system.
During the inauguration of the II Coordination Conference between Justice Administration and Local Police, the judicial reorganization was described as a “tsunami of transformation”. However, it was clarified that this reform, which will convert old courts into instance tribunals, will not eliminate the existing saturation in Malaga's judicial bodies.
“"We work hard, but we need more people and more resources."
Judicial pressure affects the entire province, with judicial districts such as Fuengirola, Marbella, Estepona, Antequera, Torrox, and Vélez-Málaga requiring more staff. The capital also suffers from this overload, especially in the Courts of First Instance and in civil jurisdiction.
Although a program to increase judicial positions is recognized, expectations have been tempered, indicating that these new additions will not cover all needs, though they will represent a significant step forward. Furthermore, the importance of functional and modern buildings has been stressed, as some judicial headquarters are obsolete.
The Mayor of Malaga, present at the conference, supported the judiciary's demands, highlighting that the province's judges bear a heavier workload than those in other regions for the same pay. Therefore, he urged the Ministry of Justice to provide more human resources to respond to the province's demographic growth.
