The Miraflores-Gibraljaire Music Band commemorates its 50th anniversary at the Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta, which celebrates its 150 years of history, uniting two cultural heritage sites of Málaga.

The historic Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta, inaugurated in 1876 and declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, is celebrating its 150th anniversary. This year, it shares the milestone with the Miraflores-Gibraljaire Music Band, marking its 50th founding anniversary. The connection between the band's music and the bullring's taurine art has become inseparable since the ensemble officially took charge in 1985.
Málaga's upcoming bullfighting season will witness this double celebration. The Miraflores-Gibraljaire Music Band, recognized as a fruitful musical and human resource in Andalusia, marks half a century of its trajectory. Meanwhile, the emblematic bullring reaches the historic figure of 150 years.
On August 9th, the band will perform the pasodoble “Pan y Toros” under the baton of director Antonio Rosa, adding another milestone to its event calendar. The ensemble originated in the 1975-1976 school year as an educational project in public schools, evolving into a symphonic institution.
Throughout its five decades, the band has participated in Holy Week processions, international festivals, and charity concerts, maintaining a spirit of generational succession. The bullring's unique acoustics demand a musical formation that dialogues with the spectacle, a challenge the Miraflores-Gibraljaire Band has met with its repertoire.
As part of the commemoration, the pasodoble “La Malagueta,” composed by José Antonio Molero Luque, will premiere, and historical musical pieces will be recovered. The celebration will culminate on December 19th, 2026, at the Teatro Cervantes with the Closing Symphonic Concert, featuring the premiere of “Miraflores, Música para un Aniversario” by Ferrer Ferran.

The members of the ensemble have been breathing an atmosphere of absolute celebration in every rehearsal for weeks, aware that they are part of a golden page in Málaga's cultural chronicle.

The coincidence of these two anniversaries highlights Málaga's ability to preserve its cultural heritage, uniting bullfighting and music through the daily efforts of its citizens.
