A distinctive support vessel, nicknamed a 'supermarket' or 'shadow boat', has drawn attention at the port of Málaga. This is the 'Kalm', an auxiliary craft designed to carry all sorts of items that a large private yacht might need and prefer not to transport onboard.
These specialized vessels can transport everything from auxiliary boats, jet skis, and land vehicles to helicopters, spare parts, fuel, provisions, and even reserve crew. Some are equipped with medical facilities and specialized personnel.
The 'Kalm', built in 2014 by Damen in the Netherlands, assists the superyacht 'Kaos', owned by a US-based billionaire businesswoman. Although they do not typically sail together, both vessels are currently in Málaga's port, a notable coincidence.
Measuring 67 meters in length, with a crew of 20 and valued at $30 million, the 'Kalm' operates at a maximum speed of 25 knots, always awaiting orders from the main yacht it serves.
