The new board of Juventud de Torremolinos, supported by a Persian Gulf fund, has decided to dismiss Antonio Calderón, the coach who led the team to two historic promotions, even though the club is two points above the relegation zone in Primera Federación.

The decision was announced this Monday, surprising many given that the Málaga team remains outside the relegation spots in Group II of Primera Federación, where Algeciras Club de Fútbol also competes. The dismissal comes after two consecutive defeats for Juventud de Torremolinos, one against Nàstic in Tarragona (2-0) and another at home against Cartagena (0-1).
Antonio Calderón, a coach from Cádiz, took charge of the club in March 2023 with the goal of avoiding relegation in Segunda Federación. Although he did not achieve that initial mission, his work was recognized, and he was kept in the position. In just three years, Calderón achieved two consecutive promotions, leading Juventud de Torremolinos to the highest category in its history, then called Primera RFEF in April 2021.

With 54 victories in 109 matches, Calderón bids farewell to his magnificent journey with the modest Juventud de Torremolinos. Undoubtedly, a living history of the organization.

The club has issued a statement referring to a “mutual agreement” and expressing its “deepest gratitude to Antonio for his dedication, commitment, and professionalism throughout this time, during which he has been a fundamental part of the entity's sporting growth.”

Under his leadership, Juventud de Torremolinos has written the brightest page in its history, achieving two consecutive promotions that have taken the team from Tercera Federación to Primera Federación, thus reaching this national category for the first time. A historic milestone that will forever remain in the memory of the club and the entire green family.

The club also highlights that Antonio Calderón “has always represented the values of hard work, ambition, and closeness that define this entity, leaving an indelible mark.” They conclude by wishing him “the best of luck in his future projects, both professional and personal,” and stating that “Torremolinos will always be your home.”
