José M. Domínguez Martínez has been unanimously re-elected as president of the Unicaja Foundation for a new four-year term. The decision, which ratifies his leadership since June 2022, was proposed by the Appointments and Remuneration Committee.
During his previous term, a thorough governance review was promoted, including a corporate governance improvement plan, annual evaluations, the creation of support committees, and the promotion of transparency. The first Strategic Plan 2023-2025 was launched, focusing on consolidating private social work in Andalusia and adapting to citizen needs, followed by a new Strategic Plan 2026-2028 to expand regional impact.
The Foundation has played an essential role in stabilizing the governance of Unicaja Banco, of which it is the main shareholder, defending its independence and headquarters in Andalusia. Management has seen an increase in income, expenses, activities, and beneficiaries, the creation of a contingency fund, strengthening of alliances, opening of new headquarters, corporate image renewal, and the promotion of the first collective agreement for employees.
In the investment area, the companies Fundatia and Liveupp were established, capital was acquired in the Atlantic-Mediterranean Technological University, and investments in startups were increased through Fundalogy. Other milestones include support for the Foundation for the Center for Research and Advanced Therapies against Cancer, the Econospérides Institute, and Unicaja Baloncesto.
Recently, the Board of Trustees has incorporated new members: Carlos Chicano Ruiz, Daniel Carrasco Díaz, and Rafael Carmona Campos, strengthening the composition with financial expertise and representation from founding entities. The Board now comprises 15 members, including President José M. Domínguez Martínez, First Vice-President Pedro Fernández Céspedes, and Second Vice-President Ángela María Callejón Gil.
A new organizational structure has been approved with the creation of the Division of Strategy, Communication, and Institutional Relations, to boost communication and monitor strategic plans. The General Directorate remains under Sergio Corral Delgado, with new divisions led by Cristina Rico Cabeza (Activities), Isabel Fernández Machuca (Legal Advisory and Corporate Governance), Javier de Pro Rueda (Financial), Joaquín Osuna Rodríguez (Media and Resources), Manuel Castillo López (Strategy, Communication, and Institutional Relations), Víctor Manuel Gutiérrez-Ravé Bautista (Internal Audit), and Juan Antonio Cano Hervás (Global Risk Control).
José M. Domínguez Martínez holds a PhD in Economic Sciences from the UMA, is a professor of Applied Economics, and director of the financial education project Edufinet. He has been a member of the Boards of Trustees of Fedea and Funcas, and vice-president of the Center for Research and Advanced Therapies against Cancer. He founded the Econospérides Institute and directed the digital economic magazine 'eXtoikos'. He has received the Honor Insignia from the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences of the UMA, the gold medal from the College of Economists of Malaga, and the Gold Medal from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Telmo.
His career includes management roles at Unicaja Banco, chairmanship of the Board of Directors of Analistas Económicos de Andalucía, and vice-presidency of the Ciedes Foundation. He also served as president of Club Baloncesto Málaga and was a member of various boards of directors. He has published 20 books and over 300 articles on public sector economics, as well as numerous opinion pieces.
