The incident unfolded around 04:10 AM when officers on patrol in Palomar and Camino de Campanales streets observed a vehicle speeding. The car abruptly stopped near the officers, and a passenger, hooded and gloved, suspiciously exited the vehicle.
The individual quickly entered another parked vehicle. As an officer approached for identification, the suspect drew a firearm and pointed it directly at the officer. Faced with this threat, the officer unholstered his service weapon, creating a moment of high tension.
At that instant, the visibly nervous suspect threw the weapon and fled on foot, while the driver of the first vehicle also escaped. Officers initiated a foot pursuit, locating the individual hiding in bushes in a flat area of Teja street. During the arrest, the suspect assaulted the officers and offered strong resistance.
“"Our officers faced a situation of maximum risk, in which an individual pointed a firearm, and they acted with determination to neutralize the threat. The rapid intervention prevented greater consequences and removed a weapon from public circulation."
The individual was eventually subdued and arrested. The firearm, which he carried without the corresponding license, was seized. The events have been initially classified as alleged crimes of assault against authority figures and illegal possession of weapons. Guardia Civil units took charge of the proceedings, and the Local Police prepared the corresponding report.
Juan Carlos Cuevas, First Deputy Mayor and Security Councillor, highlighted the professionalism of the officers and reaffirmed the Mijas town council's commitment to strengthening the resources and operational capacity of the Local Police to ensure safety throughout the municipality.
