The Hospital La Axarquía, located in the province of Málaga, has held an event to welcome 16 new resident specialists. These professionals will commence their learning period, which will extend from 2026 to 2031, across various medical and nursing specialties.
During the ceremony, held in the center's assembly hall, the newcomers had the opportunity to meet the training centers and their assigned tutors. The medical director, Inmaculada Herruzo, and the head of studies, Dori Mesa, presided over the event.
Of the 16 new residents joining the East Health Area of Málaga-Axarquía, the specialty of Family and Community Medicine will host 10. Internal Medicine follows with two, and Traumatology, Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, and Family and Community Nursing each welcome one resident.
Concurrently, the hospital bid farewell to the 16 residents who have completed their specialist training at the center. This cohort, which began their program in 2021, comprised 11 professionals in Family Medicine, two in Internal Medicine, one in Traumatology, and two in Nursing.
At the same event, research projects developed by the departing residents were presented. The topics addressed included the profile of COPD patients, the sociodemographic profile of obese/overweight patients, and studies on the excessive antimicrobial prescription for lower urinary tract infections in women.
