The financial outlay for first communions in Málaga has grown substantially, with families investing in menus costing around 50 euros per person and dresses exceeding 1,000 euros. This trend transforms the traditional family celebration into a larger event, requiring months of anticipation for its organization.
An establishment with over two decades of event experience in Málaga, Mesón El Cántaro, confirms this evolution. Although they offer more modest options, with menus at 43 euros, they acknowledge that the average expenditure ranges between 1,000 and 4,000 euros, potentially reaching figures of 30,000 or 40,000 euros in other venues. Planning has also moved up, with reservations now being made almost a year in advance.
Attire represents another major expense. A children's fashion specialist, Silvia Gil from Silvia Gil Selección, indicates that the average price for girls' dresses is 400 euros, while for boys it ranges between 300 and 380 euros. Accessories can add another 200 to 250 euros to these prices. Despite a trend towards simplicity, the market offers dress options that reach 1,000 or 1,200 euros, according to another sector merchant, Noemí from Modas Marín.
Beyond catering and attire, other services such as entertainment, photography, and travel contribute to the budget increase. Entertainment companies offer packages for 200-250 euros, although more elaborate requests have been recorded exceeding 2,000 euros. For photography, sessions can cost around 200 euros, and high-quality albums reach 449 euros. Furthermore, more families are now opting for travel as a communion gift, with Disneyland Paris being the most popular destination, where costs can reach 7,000 euros for stays in premium park hotels.
The final cost of a communion in Málaga largely depends on each family's individual decisions and their purchasing power. While some opt for more intimate and budget-friendly celebrations, others prefer to contract a wide range of services, significantly increasing the total budget. This flexibility in options has transformed the first communion into an event where the chosen details and contracted services are key to the final cost.
