With the arrival of spring and rising temperatures in Málaga, intense sunlight can significantly reduce visibility while driving. Many drivers use car sun visors to prevent glare, but are unaware that improper use can result in penalties.
The General Traffic Regulations require drivers to maintain an adequate field of vision and constant attention to driving to ensure their own safety and that of other road users. Authorities are particularly focused on sun visors, especially the mirrors often incorporated into them.
“"The vehicle's glazed surface must, in all cases, allow the driver a clear view of the entire road they are traveling on, without interference from films or adhesives."
A poorly used sun visor can obstruct visibility and distract the driver, especially if manipulated while driving. Regulations prohibit the use of these devices if they hinder the view of rearview mirrors or if they are placed on the front of the vehicle and on the driver's and passenger's windows.
Sun visors are only permitted on rear windows if the vehicle has two exterior rearview mirrors that meet the necessary technical specifications. Infractions for irregular use of these elements are considered serious and can lead to fines of up to 200 euros, in addition to the loss of 2 license points in more severe cases where reduced visibility or restricted driver movement could lead to dangerous maneuvers.
