The contractor profile of the Public Works Agency of the Junta de Andalucía selected Sando to carry out this crucial advancement in the transport infrastructure of the Málaga capital. Following a favorable review of the documentation by the technical evaluation committee, the contracting board formalized the award.
This final 510-meter segment of the route will begin after the La Trinidad station and conclude next to the Hospital Civil, covering Eugenio Gross, Blas de Lezo, and Simón Bolívar avenues. The project includes the construction of the Hospital Civil station, strategically located next to the healthcare facility and the future Hospital Virgen de la Esperanza.
The contract not only covers the execution of the tunnel and station infrastructure but also the track superstructure, which involves installing rails and devices for the trains. Additionally, the affected urban areas will be restored, ensuring minimal disruption to the surroundings.
The 'Cut&Cover' construction method, previously used in other sections, will be employed. This system involves creating diaphragm walls that define the tunnel and stations, then restoring the surface with a cover slab, and continuing underground excavation between the walls, installing intermediate slabs.
With the completion of this third section, the Málaga Metro extension between Guadalmedina and the Hospital Civil, totaling 1.8 kilometers and three stations, will be fully operational. The project is co-financed by Feder European funds from the Andalucía 2021-2027 Operational Program.
