Since last Tuesday, April 7, Almudena García has been protesting in front of the Málaga City Hall. Her action stems from the eviction from a protected rental property, owned by the municipality and located in Hacienda Cabello. Despite the situation, García has declined the invitation to the Housing Rights Office.
García's claim focuses on the home where her family resides, which is registered in her mother-in-law's name. The Municipal Housing Institute (IMV), which manages the Housing Rights Office, contacted her to arrange an appointment and present a residential alternative studied by their technicians. However, Almudena García did not attend the meeting.
“"The eviction scheduled for April 16 will leave her entire family on the street, as, she claims, the IMV only offers her one night in a shelter and the search for social housing on her own, which she cannot find."
The affected resident stated that the eviction, scheduled for April 16, will leave her family homeless. She also highlighted her husband's vulnerability, diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the impact on her 24-year-old son and 21-month-old granddaughter. García maintains that they have lived in the apartment for 23 years and signed the agreement to vacate the property under coercion, denying the official version regarding ownership and non-payment.
On the other hand, Remedios, Almudena's mother-in-law and Javier's mother, offers a different account. She asserts that the municipal housing in Hacienda Cabello is in her name and that the accumulated debt for non-payment amounts to 38,000 euros. Remedios explains that she moved into the apartment in 2021 after losing her home, but her son evicted her after five months. Since then, she has been renting a room and denies having reported her son, regretting not having been informed of his mental illness.
