Almería winger Adrián Embarba has highlighted the significance of the upcoming Andalusian derby against Málaga CF, scheduled for this Sunday. The 33-year-old Madrid-born player emphasized that there are “seven finals” left in the season and that the team is in a favorable position, holding second place with a one-point lead over Málaga. Therefore, he considers it crucial not to “fail” in their pursuit of direct promotion.
Embarba, who has scored twelve goals and provided eight assists in 33 LaLiga Hypermotion matches, stressed the high demands of the encounter against Málaga, currently in fourth place with 60 points. He described their opponent as a “very disciplined team, with young players who compete very well in duels” and who “will demand a lot from them.”
“"We have a thorn in our side from the first leg and we want to get a positive result to win the goal average, which can also be important."
The footballer recalled the 2-1 defeat suffered at La Rosaleda in the first leg, a result that Almería aims to reverse to gain a favorable goal average. Regarding the recent 5-1 loss to Racing de Santander, Embarba assured that, although it was a “hard blow,” the team has already “digested” it and is fully focused on the next challenge. He underlined that, despite this setback, the team still depends on itself to achieve promotion.
For Embarba, Málaga is a team that “wins duels and knows how to play on the counter-attack, which can punish you if you are not well positioned.” Therefore, he urged his teammates to maintain a “cool head” and “maximum intensity,” and called for the unconditional support of the fans from the start of the match, as “that changes games.”
