This Thursday, a day marked by the recovery of high-speed rail service in Málaga after a three-month hiatus, also saw a new incident on the commuter rail network. The C2 line, linking the capital with Cártama, ceased operations for an hour, from 9:35 AM to 10:35 AM, due to an animal being struck on the tracks.
Official sources from Adif reported the service interruption between Cártama and Los Prados via their social media channels. Circulation was restored once the animal was removed from the tracks, though the delay caused inconvenience for passengers.
This event adds to a series of recurring problems affecting Málaga's commuter lines. Incidents are constant, ranging from the presence of insects on trains to landslides and track failures, leading to frequent disruptions in the province's rail service.
The resumption of the AVE, which connects Málaga with Madrid, occurred after a landslide in Álora, caused by a storm, kept the connection severed for three months. Despite the positive news regarding high-speed rail, the commuter train incident once again highlighted the operational challenges of local rail transport.
