Despite holding a Blue Flag certifying its ecological quality, cleanliness, safety, and sustainability, Cenicero-Las Dunas beach in Torrox (Malaga), one of the municipalities with the best climate in Europe, remains a little-visited destination. This coastline, located between the Manzano stream and the Mascuñar ravine, boasts 1,200 meters of dark sand, calm waters, and crystal-clear seas.
Among its dune systems, which give it a pristine appearance due to the absence of a promenade, grows the protected pancratium maritimum, commonly known as sea lily. This botanical treasure is also found on neighboring beaches like El Morche or Ferrara, both of which also have Blue Flags.
Despite its low occupancy, Cenicero-Las Dunas beach is easily accessible and well-connected to Torrox and the rest of the province. Its moderate waves and cool waters make it an ideal spot for families and lovers of nature and water sports. The Blue Flag distinction acknowledges the constant effort in cleanliness, safety, services, and sustainability, demonstrating the coexistence of tourism and environmental protection.
The criteria for obtaining the Blue Flag, first established in France in 1985, include environmental information and education, high water quality, environmental management, and safety services. To reach this beach from Torrox, take the MA-102, Torrox / A-7207, and N-340 roads to Calle del Mar in El Morche.
