The incident occurred in the Miraflores neighborhood, where the students discovered the wallet with 1,332.50 euros in cash, along with cards and documents. Despite the surprising find, they decided to contact the authorities to ensure the item was returned to its owner.
“"We felt empathy because if we lost something, we would want others to do the same."
According to one of the young women, after finding the wallet and waiting unsuccessfully for someone to claim it, they contacted their parents and subsequently the Police. A patrol was dispatched to their location to collect the lost item.
The Local Police confirmed in a statement that, after verifying the wallet's contents, which included the money and various personal documents, they successfully located the owner. The owner, a 42-year-old worker, was summoned to police headquarters where his belongings were returned, expressing profound gratitude for the young women's honesty.
The students were recognized for their exemplary behavior. They received thanks from the Police and the wallet's owner himself, who contacted them to express his appreciation. Furthermore, they learned that the recovered money was intended for the repair of a van used for people with functional diversity, which added extra significance to their good deed.
