The events, according to the indictment, occurred in January 2023. The accused, accompanied by an unidentified individual, entered a commercial establishment with the intention of purchasing items valued at approximately 60 euros.
During the transaction, the woman allegedly attempted a maneuver known as “magic theft,” which involves swapping a genuine banknote for a fake one without the vendor noticing. However, the store employee detected the counterfeit, thwarting the attempted fraud.
Upon being discovered, the accused and her companion fled the scene without completing the purchase or receiving change. A third accomplice was waiting in a vehicle to facilitate their escape. The 500-euro banknote used was of sufficient quality to be mistaken for an authentic one at first glance.
The Prosecutor's Office has requested a sentence of ten years and five months in prison for the woman. She is charged with attempted fraud, for which five months in prison are sought, and currency counterfeiting, carrying a request for ten years in prison and a fine of 3,000 euros. The accused has a record of 42 prior convictions, including two for offenses related to counterfeit currency.
