The Añora Cross Festival, an event distinguished as a Tourist Interest and Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), has concluded its annual competition with the announcement of the winners. In the indoor category, Andalucía street successfully defended its title, while in the outdoor category, the top honor went to the cross from the Health Center.
One of the most notable characteristics of this edition was the originality of the proposals. The cross from Andalucía street, for example, impressed with its simulation of stained-glass windows and a rose window, combining columns and Gothic elements that captivated both the public and the jury, which included participants and independent experts.
Meanwhile, the cross from the Health Center, featuring a more classic composition, secured first prize in the outdoor category, improving on its second-place finish last year. The San Pedro cross, a previous winner in several editions, also embraced innovation by offering visitors the chance to enter the monument itself.
In the indoor category, second and third prizes were awarded to the crosses from Concepción-Olivos street and Córdoba street, respectively. Outdoors, Amargura street took second place and Arriba street came in third. The festive atmosphere lasted throughout Saturday and into the early hours of Sunday, with the crosses opening to the public at 8:00 PM.
The celebration featured various musical performances by groups such as the rondalla and choir Nuestra Señora de la Peña, the Hinojosa cultural tuna, the Amigos de la Ronda y el Bolero collective, the Juan Navarro Cultural Folkloric Association of Torremolinos, and the minstrel group La Juglaresca. The day concluded with traditional chocolate and typical sweets, followed by the announcement of the competition results at the Casa de la Cultura.
Activities continued on Sunday with the start of the IX 'Fiesta de la Cruz' Quick Painting Contest. The crosses remained open, and performances by groups like the pilgrim choir Voces de la Sierra took place. Additionally, an exhibition and the judging of the painting contest were held at the Ermita de San Pedro, along with dramatized visits to the Cross Museum in the afternoon.
