The Constitution Park in Hinojosa del Duque hosted the official presentation of the upcoming Fairs and Festivals in Honor of San Agustín, scheduled to take place in the municipality from August 23 to 29. The event served to unveil this year's announcement poster, a work by local artist Julio Muñoz Moreno, and to formally introduce the festivities' town crier, Antonio Jesús Perea Aparicio.
The presentation was attended by a significant representation of the municipal corporation, led by Mayor Matías González, accompanied by several council members. The mayor highlighted the festive atmosphere already palpable in the town, stating: “The park already notices it, and Hinojosa already smells like a fair.” González congratulated the poster artist and the town crier, acknowledging the high quality of the submitted works and the jury's difficulty in selecting the winning proposal, recalling that Muñoz Moreno had previously won this same award in 2002.
Julio Muñoz Moreno explained that his poster blends the classicism of traditions with the modernity of Hinojosa del Duque. The artwork incorporates three key elements: a woman, a representative monument, and typography. The central figure is a gypsy woman dressed in black, an unusual color that, according to the artist, breaks continuity and expresses “beauty without objectification.” The monuments featured are the tower of the Sierra Cathedral and the Sanctuary of the Santísimo Cristo, symbolizing the people and the population, as well as the Renaissance portal of the Sierra Cathedral, which welcomes the town.
Regarding the lettering and typography, the poster's pink color stands out, inspired by the Pop-Art movement. The poster also includes three red carnations, symbols of Andalusian culture representing strength, bravery, and endurance.
For his part, Antonio Jesús Perea Aparicio, the designated town crier, expressed his emotion and gratitude. He indicated that his speech will focus on the unique sentiment of the Fair and Festivals in honor of San Agustín. Surprised by the news, he hopes that “the people of Hinojosa will enjoy it, just as I have enjoyed it,” and stated he will speak of his fairs “responsibly,” aiming to connect with the citizens.
The Hinojosa del Duque City Council has congratulated the poster artist and the town crier, thanking them for their talent and commitment to local traditions in enhancing the start of the main festivities.
