The tragic event began to worsen on Thursday night, necessitating the evacuation of residents from Bédar to prevent personal losses. Unfortunately, the first fatalities were confirmed hours later.
Around one in the morning, at least six deaths were confirmed, a figure that later rose to twelve. Subsequently, at 07:15 AM, Antonio Sanz corrected the number, confirming a total of eleven fatalities.
Both Juanma Moreno and Antonio Sanz remained attentive to the fire's progression throughout the night and early morning. The President of the Junta expressed his condolences to the victims' families when six deaths were still believed to have occurred: 'With a heavy heart and broken by grief. Our deepest sympathy to the families of the six people who died in the Los Gallardos forest fire, and our affection to the municipalities affected by the blaze. A tragedy. We are devastated by this terrible news.'
After the death toll was confirmed at eleven, Antonio Sanz described the fire as the worst in Andalusia's history: 'This is the fire with the most severe consequences to date in our region. It is an unprecedented tragedy.'
