Individuals affected by the forest fire that originated on July 9th in Los Gallardos and surrounding municipalities have until this Monday, August 24th, to apply for government aid intended to alleviate damages.

The town councils of Los Gallardos and Bédar, municipalities severely impacted by the flames that claimed 14 lives, have reminded interested parties of the possibility to visit their respective town halls for information and to complete application forms.
In recent days, municipal officials have urged affected residents to submit their applications without delay to qualify for the aid mechanisms activated by the Executive. The incident scorched 5,200 hectares across Los Gallardos, Bédar, Lubrín, Antas, and Sorbas, affecting dozens of homes.
Some town councils, such as Bédar's, offered residents with damages to homes, properties, or agricultural operations the option to draw up a notarial act of presence to officially document the condition of their properties post-fire for claims with insurers or public administrations.
The decree for emergency or catastrophic situations provides aid for those whose primary residence was completely destroyed, suffered structural damage, or other impairments. Contributions are also foreseen for the destruction or damage of essential household goods, such as furniture and basic domestic equipment.
However, these mechanisms do not cover damages to vehicles, agricultural machinery, tools, non-habitable exterior elements like garages or sheds, nor exterior furniture or lighting.
For affected businesses, duly registered, aid applies to buildings, facilities, or equipment related to business activities. The maximum subsidy amount for these cases is 9,224 euros.
Aid will be granted based on the annual income of family units in the 12 months preceding the fire, with contributions ranging from 15,120 euros to 2,580 euros, depending on the assessed damages.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía identified damages in 19 sheep and goat farming operations, with a total census of 2,863 animals, located in Los Gallardos (ten), Bédar (eight), and Antas (one).
Inspections did not confirm animal deaths or significant structural damage to livestock facilities. However, impacts were noted on telecommunications, water supply networks, access roads, and pasture areas, primarily supporting sheep and goat herds. The fire also affected the heart of the Sierra de Cabrera-Bédar Special Conservation Area, part of the Red Natura 2000 network.
