The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development has visited a pig farm in Pulpí, Almería, to closely observe the sector's advancements in the province. During his tour of Granja Benzal, the modernization of the facilities was highlighted, incorporating state-of-the-art animal feeding systems and technical solutions to optimize productive efficiency.
This farm also stands out for its slurry management mechanisms, which allow for efficient waste treatment, contributing to a more sustainable activity. The intensive pig farming sector in Almería comprises over 560 farms and a capacity exceeding 937,000 livestock places, representing an economic driver and a key factor for population retention in rural areas.
“"Livestock farming is fundamental in the municipality, and this visit highlights the advances in the pig sector."
The minister acknowledged the difficulties faced by farmers, especially due to animal health problems such as swine fever, which have impacted markets and prices. However, the sector shows signs of stabilization and continues to adapt to sanitary, environmental, and market demands.
